Dubai and Modest Fashion

By Ghada Ghalayini

An undeniable fact is that modest fashion is becoming more and more popular all around the world. The huge demand for Hijab-friendly garments is being well-balanced by increasing supply, not only by international brands but also by small-business owners and young entrepreneurs. Dubai just happens to be one of those places blooming with entrepreneurs serving the Modest Fashion industry.

It will be nearly impossible to list all the names of upcoming brands relating to modest fashion in Dubai, however the best way to get to know them and take a look at their unique designs is to visit one of the pop-up events that regularly take place around the city. Two of the most popular event planners are Quadro events and Eventra Events. The pop-up markets they arrange showcase a collection of luxurious abayas and kaftans. These markets often take place in malls like Mercato Mall and Sunset Mall, as well as populous areas like City Walk.

When you walk among the tens of local brands you get a feeling of pride to have so many choices that help you look modestly elegant. It also gives the designer in you great encouragement to go down that line and contribute to the modest fashion industry yourself. Let’s face it, we all want to be fashionistas!

Even though it will be hard to compete in this domain because all these brands are working to provide top-of-the-line products, but I think there is a place for everybody. Fashion depends on personal taste and as long as you work passionately and wholeheartedly there will always be people who fall in love with your designs as much as you do. If there is anything I learned living in Dubai for the past few years it’s that nothing is impossible. Dubai is the land of opportunities and dreams. Dubai is the future – for fashion, trends and metropolitan chic and savvy, yet modest and within boundaries. Dubai has it all.
